Why Blasphemous Is Trending Right Now

Blasphemous isn't climbing player charts—it peaked at 0 concurrent players in the last 24 hours with a flat 0% trend. But this 2019 metroidvania has aged like wine: 22,521 player reviews sit at 90% positive, and at $2.49, it's become a cult classic for action-platformer fans willing to master its parry mechanics.

What sets Blasphemous apart is its uncompromising art direction—a hand-drawn gothic nightmare world that feels genuinely unsettling. The combat is built on two core mechanics (parry + ground dash), but boss design and execution animations elevate it beyond simple hack-and-slash. It's built for metroidvania purists and souls-like enthusiasts who value skill expression over handholding.

Players consistently praise Blasphemous for its punishing parry-based combat, stunning gothic art direction, and memorable boss fights. The main friction point: confusing story lore and multiple missable quests that essentially require a wiki to fully complete, making it feel like a treasure hunt rather than a guided narrative.

Easily one of my favorite metroidvania games, although it doesnt have any complicated mechanic, just a ground dash and a parry, the bosses, beautifully uncanny art style and the game in general is incredible. Only minor inconveniences is the multiple missable quests and the fact that without an online map / guide its borderline impossible to 150%

Needless to say it’s one of the best games in the genre and fairly unique. It’s not perfect and it has a few flaws like impossible to play/finish without a guide. I might come back to do other endings and achievements. You can get it for $1 or so on sale so 100% worth it.

This game is cool but the lore was a bit confusing to me. The combat feels solid and there are dozens of different enemies. Controls are solid and the gameplay is smooth.

An easy game to achieve goals in a funny and entertainment ways, bosses can be conquered easily so you can progress through the game fast
