Why Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Is Trending Right Now
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide maintains 7,227 peak concurrent players with a solid 75% positive rating from 86,453 reviews, 3+ years post-launch. However, a brutal 68% player drop over 7 days signals serious retention issues despite its impulse-friendly $9.99 price point—something's driving players away.
Darktide carves a niche between co-op shooters (Left 4 Dead vibes) and RPG progression systems, wrapped in the grim 40K universe. It's tailor-made for friend squads seeking tactical gunplay, but random matchmaking exposes why it's shedding players: community toxicity, poor new-player onboarding, and limited map variety. Vermintide veterans and 40K co-op seekers are the holdouts.

What the Community Is Saying
Players rave about punchy, tactical combat and co-op synergy when squads click; the 40K aesthetic and weapon variety drive replay. Main complaint: toxic random matchmaking that tanks solo players, combined with sparse maps and a brutal skill wall for newcomers.
I like the game but the community sucks. I had one game where I wasn't at my best and my "team" refused to revive me. Bear in mind I got knocked about 3 times. They just started insulting me in chat and effectivly didnt let me play. I would like a single player feature so I can avoid this horrific community, otherwise its not very fun to play.
Love this game so much when playing with friends. Hate the game so much when playing with randoms. Most of them plays as though they're speed running and ending up dead anyways. Heck they barely even touch any chests, WTF is this?! Please allow private lobby for solos
It's a lot of fun. The combat's really good and the game has been steadily improving out of the sorry state that it launched in. Wish there were more maps and they took Vermintide 2's approach to cosmetics
Great gameplay but has bad onboarding for new players and overpriced skins
Pick the game back in 2024 on sale played it for a bit then drop it. Tried it again this past month. Idk what it was but sonthing just click and I love it. arbitis has been my favorite that made everything click so I started using all the classes and lvl them up. Dude im glad I gave this another try such a fun game.
I dont want to play with randos, they ruin the fun. I want to explore the maps but they just run ahead, abandon everything and there's no way to host my own private game
