Why The Alters Is Trending Right Now

The Alters sits at a 732-player 24-hour peak with a commanding 89% positive rating across 6,293 reviews. However, it's experiencing a steep -66% decline over the past 7 days, signaling it has passed its early-access buzz phase. Released 270 days ago, it found a dedicated niche audience but is shedding players fast.

The Alters stands out by merging survival gameplay with deep narrative introspection—you clone yourself to tackle both external threats and internal character growth. This appeals to players seeking strategic challenges wrapped in emotional storytelling rather than pure action or sandbox freedom.

Players rave about the emotionally resonant story, unique clone-yourself mechanic, and base-building system that reinforces character themes, plus stunning visuals and soundtrack. The main criticism: while solid and character-driven, the narrative could dig deeper for more narrative impact.

Great little story driven survival sandbox. I hope more developers use this gameplay structure for deeper narratives, it's a great framework to hang a character driven story on.

The best base building game I've played yet. Nice concept about cloning yourself involving different moral choices for different endings. The story is solid, could definitely be better but it is nowhere near bad at all. I really enjoyed the game. Jan Scientist is the true goat.

This is one of the few unique games that puts you into a space of introspection. I love the idea, I love the music, I love the characters, I love the management gameplay. I'll hold this close to my heart as one of the games I play just to relax and to feel understood.

The Alters is a playable LinkedIn for my failed potential. After cloning several better versions of myself, morale always improved when I left the room. Turns out every version of me is different kind of terrible.

This game changed my perspective on the choices we make. • The visuals are awesome • The alien planet looks exactly it should: unknown, sci-fi'ey and still kinda realistic. • The effects are fabulous. • The OST is still in my playlist.

👎 Not Recommended 1h played

This game was not good. It was nothing like This War of Mine. You can only go where it directs you, and you only have enough time to do exactly what the task is. Combined with its overly complicated mechanics makes this unplayable for me. I had to request a refund after less than an hour.
