I feel like a kid playing Battlestations: Midway again. While I am a bit disappointed in the lack of content on early access launch, I know full well it has been a very small team working on this project. After tracking the games development blogs for years, the complexity and accuracy of this game blows every competitor out of the water.
It is very incomplete and the content is bare-bones, but I love it anyway. The bones of this game are excellent and I hope the developers follow through with all the rest of the content as well as adding some sort of campaign. If you are looking for a finished and polished experience, you should wait. I'm happy to support the small dev team and hoping for a great final product.
Ive been a kickstarter backer since the second the demo first dropped and it's become one of my favorite games! Its not really like any game I played before, the player really doesn't have to do much, it's mostly your AI pilots and such that do the real work. Some people say the game is too hard or something, look I didn't read the pdf manual or anything and I figured it out, it took me...2 whole rounds...give it a shot! I couldn't be happier with the progress so far
Since the long forgotten days of Battlestations: Midway I have been pining for a game to come along to really do justice to the carrier battles in the Pacific. This is the first one I have come across to truly scratch that itch. I could spend hours simply watching the aircraft position around the deck, and the hoards of bombers swiftly moving to their targets.
Its more of a visual story teller then a game. It is satisfying to watch play out and make tactical decisions.
the content is pretty slim right now but the foundation built here is incredible. If you even have a slight interest in ww2 carrier operations this is worth keeping an eye on. However at the current price and state of the game it's a little hard to recommend. If all things go well for the devs though this shouldn't take long to flip this review to a recommend.
