Why Stoneshard Is Trending Right Now

Stoneshard is down 48% over 7 days (1,271 peak CCU), but maintains a strong 74% positive rating across 11,262 reviews. The decline reflects natural player fatigue during extended early access, but the game's core audience remains devoted to its brutal roguelike formula and turn-based tactical depth.

Stoneshard stands out through seamless turn-based combat paired with genuine survival pressure—hunger, injuries, equipment degradation, and permadeath stakes. It's built for strategy veterans and roguelike enthusiasts who view difficulty as the core mechanic, not a bug; the caravan progression system adds a meta-layer that rewards successful runs.

Players consistently praise the turn-based mechanics, brutal survival systems, and caravan progression system as standouts in the roguelike space. Main criticism: extreme difficulty and harsh permadeath feel punishing rather than challenging for anyone outside the hardcore strategy audience.

One of the best open-world survival RPGs I've ever played. Love the turn-based style (from day-night cycle to combat, flows very well imo). Survival mechanics are hardcore, diverse and really engaging; the caravan (& subsequent upgrades) are great for exploration, crafting, comfort, hunting, etc. Love the skill tree system as well. Cannot wait for this to get more updates and get its full release.

Unbelievable good. If this game gets all the content they plan on making for it, this will be one of the best games ever made. Its a hard game to start, but once you get the hang of it, its amazing.

the game is good but its a lot punishing too like if you die you go back to the last save so do as you please with that info

Great game. A very steep learning curve. The art is amazing. Played a lot on the 'other version', decided to support the devs. Ignore all the whinnying 'gamers' that have hundreds of hours played in DS, complaining about the game difficulty. Yall are just bad :)

EA for 6 years. And they are adding 100+ equally useless backpacks instead of making game from demo

Should You Play It? Pros & Cons

✅ Reasons to Play

  • Turn-based combat flows seamlessly with day-night cycle, eliminating twitch-reflex pressure from typical roguelikes
  • 74% positive reviews driven by exceptional survival mechanics (hunger, injuries, caravan upkeep) that create real stakes
  • Caravan base-building system provides progression continuity beyond individual dungeon runs
  • Procedurally generated dungeons with permadeath create endless replayability for hardcore players

❌ Things to Consider

  • 48% player drop over 7 days signals either content drought or difficulty wall stopping newcomers
  • Steep learning curve with brutal early punishment—expect 10+ failed runs before core mechanics click
  • Early access for 6 years with no announced full-release date; momentum clearly fading

Common Questions About Stoneshard

Is Stoneshard worth buying in 2026?

Yes, if you embrace permadeath. The 74% positive score from 11,262 reviews proves it delivers genuine depth for hardcore RPG fans. At $18.74, it's a solid investment—but the 48% weekly decline warns that content updates may stall further.

How many players does Stoneshard have?

Peak of 1,271 concurrent players in the last 24 hours, down 48% over 7 days. Player count is actively shrinking, likely due to limited content updates during its prolonged early access period.

Is Stoneshard multiplayer or co-op?

No. Stoneshard is strictly single-player—no multiplayer, co-op, or PvP. Full focus is on solo tactical dungeon crawling with persistent caravan management.

How long does it take to beat Stoneshard?

There's no traditional ending. Individual runs last 1-2 hours (quick death) to 10-15 hours (successful progression). Procedurally generated dungeons mean replayability is theoretically endless, though most players invest 30-50 hours before moving on.
