ROUTINE — Is It Worth Playing in 2026?

177 players at 24-hour peak
PC (Steam) Shooter $19.99 Very Positive 3,958 reviews

Why ROUTINE Is Trending Right Now

ROUTINE launched with a 177-player peak and 94% positive rating across 3,958 reviews—rare acclaim for a niche indie. But the -84% 7-day player drop reveals a brutal retention problem, suggesting most who bought it didn't stick around. Its 79 Metacritic score confirms critical respect in a narrow genre.

It's a solo sci-fi horror experience that captures the tension of Alien Isolation wrapped in a liminal-space 80s retro-futurism aesthetic—a formula that doesn't come around often. Target audience: hardcore horror fans who prioritize atmosphere and environmental storytelling over action. If SOMA, The Bunker, or analog horror hit you right, this is tailored for you.

Players love the immersive, unnerving atmosphere and retro-futuristic aesthetic—calling it a rare, thoughtful space horror experience comparable to SOMA. The deal-breaker for many: it's over too fast with a disappointing ending, making the $19.99 price sting.

Its like Alien Isolation and the Backrooms had a beautiful, nostalgic, subliminal, terrifying baby. We need more games like this! I hope they release dlcs for this bad boy

played the game without seeing any gameplay/story or trailers for it, can safely say that was one of the best horror gaming experiences i've had in a while, Routine is a rare space horror game, that's fun, immersive and stressful to the player - also containing good graphics, aesthetics and sound designs, with some interesting mechanics around puzzles. if you're able to - try checking it out.

A really neat horror game but it's too short. The game had some unique ideas and implemented them pretty well and there were some very scary moments, but the ending was kinda nothing and the story didn't really go anywhere even though it was initially interesting.

An extremely unnerving experience, something akin to Soma and The Bunker. Loved it, and this is comiung from someone who is not a fan of Analog Horror and the 'Liminal Spaces' aesthetic.

This game is too cool to be a generic jumpscare slophorror game for Gen Alpha. But that's how it is.
