Half Sword

21,604 peak players on launch day

Why Half Sword Is Trending

Half Sword arrived on Steam Early Access on January 30, 2026, after generating enormous hype during Steam Next Fest 2025 — where its free demo topped both the wishlist and most-played charts simultaneously. The physics-based medieval combat simulator, described by players as "utterly silly but deeply realistic," generated over 400,000 wishlists from a single demo period and saw 10,000+ videos uploaded across social platforms before launch.

The game's jaw-dropping physics system simulates every joint, limb, and weapon with remarkable fidelity. Fights feel chaotic, brutal, and genuinely funny — a rare combination. The game's viral clip potential has kept it in the conversation for weeks post-launch, with content creators flooding YouTube and TikTok with Half Sword footage.

What Players Are Saying

✅ Reasons to Play

  • Physics combat unlike anything else on Steam — every swing, block, and grapple feels visceral and unpredictable
  • Historically accurate XV-century armor and weapons with impressive detail and research behind each piece
  • Massive viral clip potential — genuinely funny emergent moments that make for great content

❌ Things to Consider

  • Early Access with limited content — the core combat is excellent but the game loop is still thin in 2026
  • Steep learning curve — the physics system can feel frustrating and uncontrollable until you learn the mechanics
  • Extreme violence including gore and dismemberment — not suitable for all players, even with gore toggle

The game is good and very fun but runs pretty terribly at the lowest settings i can hardly get 50 fps while fighting in the slums with a RTX 4070 SUPER, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and 32 GB of DDR5. IMO, wait for a performance patch

Devs are taking the feedback seriously, so I have no doubt the games many issues mentioned elsewhere will be resolved soon. I love the game as it stands on a gameplay level and cant wait to see how it ultimately shakes out

Performance issues fixed after selecting dx12. Love the demo and the game seems to be on the right direction. Just hoped the hub was a in game thing. Keep the good work guys!

So to be clear, I've played the demo for over 300 hours before release, therefore I think it's fair to say that I've got some understanding of the game and its workings. There's things I like and I don't like about the Early Access release. For one - the performance. On day one…

Usually I maintain a policy of not reviewing Early Access games since they're not finished products, but there's a lot of bad info and exaggerated claims flying around here in the review section and I feel some level-headed examination of the game in it's current state is called…

feels more clunky than the demo, awful performance and crashed after 30 minutes. i will update this review if the game improves.
