Why FINAL FANTASY VII Is Trending Right Now

Despite zero 24-hour peak players, FINAL FANTASY VII got a second wind from recent patches fixing battle FPS and overhauling controller support. The 2013 Steam version is finally delivering what PC players waited over a decade for: a stable port without Square Enix account nonsense.

Players celebrate the reworked experience on modern hardware, especially Steam Deck, while praising QoL improvements over the original 1997 release. Though the 48% mixed rating reflects aged graphics, community sentiment centers on 'finally playable'—a game that still defines the JRPG genre despite its years.

Players consistently praise the recent patches, Steam Deck support, and finally having a no-nonsense PC version of gaming's most influential JRPG. The recurring criticism: it's still fundamentally a 1997 game with dated graphics, and some players can't overlook that even with improved stability.

They patched the battle fps same day. So far excellent update. Happy to have the PS4 version on steam finally. Excellent to have fixed facial animations and the added QOL features.

Runs great on Steam Deck. I was about to start a new playthrough and saw a new version was going to get released. Glad I waited a bit to start. Already in Kalm and enjoying it.

It's just the 2013 version of the game but with proper controller support, cheats, and no need for a Square Enix account. Thumbs up for me.
