Why Call of Duty®: Black Ops II Is Trending Right Now

Black Ops 2 is gaining renewed attention ahead of its July 2026 PS5/4 re-release, which targets the original versions' hacker infestation problem. With 85% positive reviews (23,163) and a campaign considered a franchise high point, the re-launch offers a fresh start for a 14-year-old classic. Current player count sits at 484 peak CCU with a -41% 7-day trend, but console consolidation could reverse this.

Black Ops 2 excels where few shooters do: a story-driven campaign and co-op Zombies mode that hold up 14 years later. The target audience is narrative-focused FPS players and Zombies enthusiasts—not competitive multiplayer gamers. The PS5/4 re-release is banking on exactly this: campaign players and Zombies fans who've been locked out by hackers on older platforms.

This game is easily one of the best Call of Duty titles ever created, it was gifted to me on PC in 2012 by my good friend. I think COD Zombies was their smartest idea.

Common Questions About Call of Duty®: Black Ops II

Is Call of Duty®: Black Ops II worth buying in 2026?

Yes for the campaign—it's legitimately one of CoD's best with 85% positive reviews. Single-player is excellent. However, avoid the original PC/console versions if you want multiplayer; they're infested with hackers. Wait for the PS5/4 version launching July 2026 for a clean online experience.

How many players does Call of Duty®: Black Ops II have?

24-hour peak is 484 concurrent players, down 41% in the last 7 days. The base is fragmented across multiple old platforms (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) with many lobbies compromised by cheaters. The PS5/4 re-release should consolidate players onto secure servers.

Is Call of Duty®: Black Ops II multiplayer or co-op?

It's both: single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer PvP, and 4-player co-op Zombies mode. The campaign has branching choices that unlock different endings. Multiplayer on older platforms is broken by hackers, but campaign and Zombies remain fully playable.

How long does it take to beat Call of Duty®: Black Ops II?

Campaign main story runs 6–8 hours depending on difficulty. Zombies mode is infinite co-op survival with no true ending. Completionists hunting all secrets and alternate endings can expect 15+ hours. The branching story design adds replay value.
