Why BLACKTAIL Is Trending Right Now
BLACKTAIL isn't a player count juggernaut—it peaked at just 104 concurrent players with a flat 7-day trend (+0%). But with 1,257 reviews averaging 81% positive and an 80/100 Metacritic score, this is a quality-over-quantity situation. Three-year-old indie games rarely maintain strong sentiment scores; this one has.
It's positioned as a story-first archery RPG inspired by Slavic mythology, competing more with narrative-driven games than competitive shooters. The morality system and art direction set it apart from typical bow-and-arrow games. Target audience: players who prioritize atmosphere, writing, and unique mechanics over mainstream multiplayer.

What the Community Is Saying
Players consistently praise the immersive Baba Yaga atmosphere, archery mechanics, and hand-drawn art style as genuinely unique. The primary frustration: a morality system that shapes gameplay but doesn't meaningfully affect the ending feels wasted.
The morality system changing the way you interact with the world at a fundamental level was very interesting and I would love to see it expanded on. Two major criticisms: the path not affecting the ending was a big miss to me, and the title progression was often very unclear. Solid game, I had fun! Devs if you see this you guys should do an FPS defense game, that gnoll cave siege was a standout.
Great game, with a beautifully designed storyline and visuals
great game! the artstyle was amazing and fit the story really well. Even the 'mystery' of it all was well done especially because it was pretty clear from the beginning what the end result was gonna be. if you like using a bow and arrows, definitly give this game a try
Vibes -- the witchy baba yaga vibes are great! The gameplay seems unique to me too. It just really feels like something different and if you're interested in the witchy baba yaga vibe you'll probably like it. Be a bit patient at the beginning, I had to look up a couple things because I was confused but I'm not really much of a 1st person rpg player. Have fun!
Pretty good game with a good story, worth the price. Also Yaga is
pretty cute, idk why would anyone want to bully her :(
I liked atmosphere. The combat was pretty simple. It seemed like a nice and chill game, but I didn’t manage to finish it because of big performance issues around mid game. I can't recommend it.
