Why 9 Kings Is Trending Right Now

9 Kings hit 1,777 concurrent players at its 24h peak but dropped 51% over 7 days—a sharp decline despite a 93% positive rating from 9,193 reviews. This gap between critical acclaim and player retention suggests early adopter burnout from limited endgame content.

This is Slay the Spire meets Risk of Rain: a roguelike kingdom builder with thousands of viable build combinations. It's winning over deckbuilder fans and cross-platform players (Mac and Steam Deck optimized), but it reads as early access despite the full release tag.

Players love the addictive 30-minute run loop, surprising strategic depth despite simplicity, and rare cross-platform optimization (Mac/Steam Deck). Main criticism: heavy RNG and incomplete content feel—most agree it needs more kingdoms and balance passes to feel finished.

Fun game to play on the steam deck, takes 30~ minutes on average for a chill run, this is like risk of rain and slay the spire in a different medium. its fun but very based on RNG. I get 2-3 hours on steam-deck, stable 60fps unless theres many troops on screen and then it dips (which also happens on pc)

A good strat game with a decent level of depth and fun gameplay. Although it need more content and depth to be considered a finished game. Worth the money, hope the devs keep working on it

Runs well on my Mac, which is amazing since basically everything else doesn't

Really addicting game. I like playing it while I watch tv shows since you can take your time between turns and you can finish entire runs in bite-sized chunks. While it's simple there's a surprising amount of depth and you can find really interesting ways to break the game in your favor.

Great fun. An engaging core loop and I can see them doing interesting things in the future.

👎 Not Recommended 79h played

It's a fun game, but higher difficulties will funnel you into hyper-specific builds and require immense amounts of RNG to succeed. Pass unless it's on sale.
